The Health Insurance Industry sucks...
So the illusion that we might actually have some decent health insurance has been shattered pretty firmly. I already knew that the deductible involved was quite a bit but the plan waited until *AFTER* we sign up to let us in on the fine print.
Apparently the BC/BS Savings Care plan that we signed up for through his contracting company has a pre-existing condition limitation. No where in any of the documentation does it mention that there is such a limitation and since I've never run into one before, I didn't even think to ask about it. Which means that oh, say 90% of what A goes to the doctor for won't be covered for the next 10 months...(they are including the 2 months that he has already worked for the company--isn't that nice of them?) According to the BC/BS people it is the employer's responsibility to let its employees know about the limitation. Great. The contracting company is closed today so he can't talk to anyone about it until tomorrow.
The other option that he had through them only allowed for 6 doctor's visits per year. He'd use that up in 2-3 months. Several of the things that we would need aren't covered at all. It is actually cheaper than the BC/BS plan but aside from the prescription insurance we really wouldn't get much out of it. So at that point why waste the money.
My new company also offers health insurance for its contractors and one of the plans is actually fairly decent but they don't have an employee plus one option. So I have to pay more than three times the individual rate if I want to cover my spouse as well. That is just quite the racket isn't it? I mean that hardly seems fair for me to be paying so much more for two people. Yet the woman who I was told to call about benefits questions seemed very surprised that I felt this was an unfair option. She really couldn't understand why I was upset about paying so much more just to include my spouse.
I know that this job is going to be a good situation for me but right now I'm wondering if maybe I should have held out for a permanent job with real benefits.

It's been years since "If this job is to difficult, McDonald's is hiring." This was originally someone else to a KFC worker.
