OMG I'd love to do this.

Think we can talk your husband into watching the kids for the weekend? I somehow doubt we'd get him into one of these rafts. ;-)

I think you're wrong

I think Alan woul dlove WWR. And in that area there's lots of things to do with kids. My family used to vacation up around there. Many thoughts, no real plan. Can't plan for April yet. Big question is Money.

You're forgetting a basic principle: Homey Don't Camp.

Also, homey ESPECIALLY don't camp out with kamikaze child. Dear heart, has it been that long since last Tuesday? I give him approximately two hours before he puts something poisonous in his mouth, picks up something that'll bite him, or head-dives into something wet/sharp/dangerous and we'll be making frantic phone calls trying to find the nearest doc-in-a-box.

Explain the fun part of this, please?

Oh, and what do you plan to do when Thing 1 has a freak out and refuses to get into a raft?

Hrm, I wasn't factoring CAMPING into this equasion. I was figuring hotel room and going out from there.

The fun part woul dbe that one day while one of us was out rafting the other could take the kids to do something cool like Howe Caverns or somesuch and then the next day swap.

I'm still not seeing where the "fun" part of this is. Either I get to schlep two whiny kids someplace they don't want to be while they complain about not having mommy, or I get to be soaked, frozen, and bit by a zillion bugs while YOU deal with them.

What part, exactly, do you think I'm wrong about?

I thought it would be a fun thing like the biking down the volcano was fun.

Biking down the volcano involved no children, no swarming insects, no freezing water, and essentially no physical exertion. I see absolutely no comparison.

At that time of year, there will be no swarming insects... On of the reasons for going in April. As for freezing water, you would need to wear a wetsuit anyway so it doesn't matter much.

*shrug* I really didn't think it would be your cup of tea.

whatever happened to "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger?"

I'm not sure what kind of camping you are thinking, but I think we are thinking camping with sauna's and beds and roofs and doors. Are you thinking camping with dirt and sleeping bags and tents?

s/stronger/stranger/

I was rather thinking of the latter kind. The former kind is a proximate prison in which we have to stay - or at least one of us has to stay - once the kids are in bed and at which we have to get up when they do.

As I said to the babe, I'm still not seeing the "fun" part of this.

If we bring a laptop for you with WoW loaded on it would that help?

Meow darling.

Insults aside you're avoiding the question.

huh? I think you replied in the wrong place as I'm not your darling, nor did I insult you.

If you want either we can talk but I otherwise I'm at a loss here.

You made a catty comment about a laptop. I catted in response.

no a catty comment me would have been, "You Human feed me, pet me, let me shed all over you."

As the joke goes.

Two dogs are sitting there one day talking and one says to the other, "You know, these humans, they feed us, keep us warm, take us for walks. They truly must be gods."

Now that is catty. *THHPT*

Logistics of Thing 1 & 2 aside. We aren't camping. I usually look for a vacation home, townhome or cheaper motel to rent out, preferably something with an available common room, kitchen and hot tub.

Including logistics of 1 & 2 is something else again. They would be too young to actually go rafting and so other activity would have to be found.

Though, we'd be up early anyway due to rafting and I've yet to have anyone do anything but hang out at accomodations otherwise... there usually isn't much night life in those kinds of areas anyway.

Veteran endorsement

This is excellent entertainment! So exciting, it doesn't matter how cold the water is! LOTS of great restaurant choices in the region, too. April's best as the blood sucking black flies aren't out yet. May/June they can be so thick you can't see through the clouds of them around you. Ah, the Northern Forest. Canoe trips on slacker waters are plentiful and wonderful up that way, too.

That is good to know. This is the 4th trip we have put together but the first one to New York. Which is why the lodging thing is kind of up in the air, I'm not as familiar with the territory. If you have any suggestions, let me know. We will need to be staying near North River, NY.

I would be very interested if I knew how much it will suck out of me in terms of $$$.

Lodging costs have yet to be determined but I am trying to get something between $50-$100 per night per person.

The actually trip will be $75 per person. If we can get a group of 12 or more people than the rate will go down to $66 per person. Right now I am not optimistic that it will be larger than 8 or so.

oops...
