I have taken on an incredible challenge. On the weekend of October 7th, I'll be walking 60 miles over the course of three days, camping out at night with thousands of other women and men taking this journey with me. hammercock is also joining me with trowa_barton working as crew.

It's for an event called the Breast Cancer 3-Day, which benefits Susan G. Komen for the Cure and the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund. Every advancement in breast cancer research, treatment, education and prevention in the last 25 years has been touched by a Komen for the Cure grant. They are working hard to build a future without breast cancer, and I plan on raising $2300 to help bring us closer to that goal.

My personal reasons for doing the walk are My Mom and Her Sister.

My Mom is a Parkinson's patient and struggling everyday to maintain some kind of control in her life. Her sister is a Breast Cancer survivor who recently lost her husband to cancer. I've been wanting to do something to honor the both of them and the impact they have had on my life. Mom's sister and her husband were always a joy to be around. I miss him terribly and really wish I could have seen him more in the last years of his life. Despite my mother's personal battle with illness she is also part of the "The Sister's Project" which helps to further the research of breast cancer.

Without a cure, one in eight women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer. That's why I'm walking in the 3-Day. Because everyone deserves a lifetime.
