Sirens

I hate listening to sirens... it is always a depressive/anxious experience for me.

There are a lot of sirens that go off around where we live and it seems like they've been doing overtime lately. Sleep last night was a difficult thing because of them.

That's interesting - I live near a fire station and for me they are soothign sounds of white noise.. sometimes in the summer I like to sleep with the windows open to hear all the noises (sirens, horns, people) since the window closes out the sound, and after 6 years in NYC I find those noises soothing.

Well, I'd been living in the boondocks for a while and the initial move back to suburbia wasn't a huge change in noise. But the Terrace in Lawrence has A LOT of noise - specifically police, ambulance and fire sirens... (and yes, I'm hearing them often enough that I know the difference) Even after a year I still find it unnerving.

No, it makes sense, I suppose for me it's just soothing in a strange way, since instead of hearing a siren and thinking "uh-oh, something bad happened", I think "oh good... someone is getting help". (Since there are so many people in this city, I find it strangely reassuring to hear the sounds of "police/ambulance/firemen to the rescue!".

But I could just be a freak.

That's no fun. Ringing phones used to do the same to me, constant calls and not one of them any good.
